Protecting Your Home With Simple Security Measures

By Robert Michael

The protection and security of your home is one of the most important things to you and your family. There is not always a second chance when it comes to the security of your family. By taking a little time now to implement some simply security measures you can help ensure that your family is safe in the future.

There are a few inexpensive things you can do around the house to make your home more secure from criminals while helping your family feel more secure.

Security Tip #1

Every entry way on your property should have adequate lighting. Most hardware stores sell motion activated lights which are easy to install. It is also important to install lights on sides of your home that may be especially dark.

Security Tip #2

Although privacy fences are great for providing privacy for your family they are also excellent for allowing robbers with the privacy to break into your home. Once inside a criminal can take the time to find a way in your house. Install motion activated lights inside the fenced in area and lock the gate securely.

Security Tip #3

Key entry locks are not effective for providing security. Instead, install deadbolts on all entry doors.

Security Tip #4

Contrary to popular belief, criminals do not often enter through windows. This is because they make too much noise when they are broken. You are still better safe than sorry. Keep your windows locked at all times. Glazing is one of the most effective ways to secure windows against breakage.

Security Tip #5

Consider installing a monitored home security system. Many security companies have specials which include free equipment if you sign a contract for 2-3 years. Choose a security company with a solid history and proven track record. An alarm system will also often lower your insurance premiums. This might be enough to even cover the cost of the system.

Lower your chances of becoming a victim by using these simply security steps around your home.
